Exercising your English bull

Most often, the amount of exercise and when to start, will depend upon 'where' you acquire your Bully from. Some lines mature faster and can handle more exercise or be able to exercise sooner than those that are slower to mature or may have heavier bone structure or build.
You also must remember that the 'Quality' of time is MORE important than the 'Quantity' of time when it comes to attention and/or exercise.

A well-conditioned Bully is naturally more healthy and sometimes calmer in attitude than one that has had the 'couch' all his/her life but ...
A Bully is one of the Few Breeds that can 'keep in almost maximum condition with a minimal of exercise'.
This means Physical AND Mental exercise.

A healthy and mature Bully can endure a whole day running around with children or spend a day watching t.v. on the couch.
Heavy exercise such as jogging, or 1 mile walks, should be avoided until your Bully is well over 1 year of age due to their density of bone growth.
Permanent damage can occur, sometimes not until later in life, to a Bully that is over-exercised too early in life.
To fully determine if your Bully is up-to-the-task of any hard exercise, consult your Breeder and Vet.

General exercise is very basic and is the case with most puppies of any breed. A game of fetch for 10-15 minutes, twice a day in the garden or perhaps a 'stroll' down the street, to get the post or even to the shops.

Once a puppy reaches 4 or 5 months then a little more exercise can be added, whether this is more time twice a day or the same amount of time three or four times a day or perhaps varying it so that each day sees a different amount of time. Mental Exercise can be done Daily and is just as much exercise to the body as it is to the mind.

At the age of 6-9 months, getting your Bully into basic obedience classes once a week, perhaps a beginners class of agility and adding some dog tricks to his daily life will not only Physically exercise your Bully safely but it will also aid with boredom, destructive teething, hyperness and attentiveness because the pup will be getting Mental Exercise, as well as Physical, with the above activities.

It is important to Remember - no matter what exercise or activity, NEVER allow your Bully to Roam free.

Using a long rope or a Flexi leash or making use of the enclosed land to exercise your Bully AND keep them safe.
